Frequently Asked Questions

From the amount of email and questions we get, we've compiled a list of the most frequently asked ones. Take a look and see if any of your questions are listed here.

1. How large are the classes?

We keep class size small in order to provide you with the focus you deserve. Classes are no larger than eight students.

2. Do you adhere to any particular styles or methods?

We'll answer this in three parts:

First, Acting. We all have very different ways that we approach our work as actors, so we offer many different tools for you to try. We don't adhere strictly to one school of thought such as Sanford Meisner, Michael Chekhov, or Stanislavski. We use the tools we have gained as actors in our years of experience in the theatre and pass them on to you. Each performer is an individual and will develop his or her own way of working. What is most important is that you learn how to most effectively tell the truth and be honest in your work. This requires specific focus, and it is ultimately so thrilling and fun.

Second, Singing. We are coming from different schools and experience, offering you the best of all worlds. Dan is a classically trained singer and also teaches voice privately. He really focuses on developing a solid, usable technique that will allow you to sing freely and express the song. We all believe that good singing is easy, free, supported, and open. We will focus on ways for you to increase your range, your vocal power, and the clarity of your sound. For more on Dan's voice studio, see www.MyLAVoiceTeacher.com.

Third, Dancing. Angel was the dance captain for Fosse on Broadway and has worked side-by-side with legends such as Gwen Verdon, Ben Vereen, and Ann Reinking. She has a background in modern dance and ballet and is an incredible teacher. She will focus on helping you develop a good dance technique. You will learn original Broadway choreography and the stories behind how the dances were created. You won't get a dance education like this and in such a supportive environment anywhere in LA.

3. What are the classes like?

Each week, we tailor the class to suit your needs. We focus on two of the three elements every week: acting, singing, or dancing. And we always tie what we are doing into real-world application...how it translates to good auditions, performance, and industry savvy.

Most importantly, class is a supportive, safe, and encouraging place. We keep it positive, focused, and loving. That is the best environment for your creativity and skill to grow, and it is our passion to see you improve and soar every week.

4. Are students required to audition to get into Our Learning Spot?

No. We have a painless screening process. Just give us a call, and we'll chat about what you want, your experience, and we'll decide if it's the right place for you. You will know if it's something you want to pursue or not, and we can tell from talking to you if you are passionate about learning and being the best you can be. As long as you have the desire to learn and grow with us, we will have a great time.

We respect you as a fellow professional, and we expect a professional level of focus, concentration, and respect in class. It's a lot of fun, but it's fun because we are focused on making you the best performer you can be.

We like to work with people who are passionate about performing and learning. When you are passionate, it only ignites our fire even more.

5. What ages do you teach?

The classes are for adult and teenage performers. (Ages 16 and up.)

6. How do I register for class?

If you are new to class, give us a call or email us, and we'll get you set up, or simply fill in the registration form on the site.

7. What if I have to miss a class? Do you offer make up classes?

We expect you to commit to class on a month-by-month basis, and monthly tuition is non refundable. Because we keep class size very small, we are not able to offer make up classes.

8. What should I wear to class?

Wear comfortable clothes that look and feel good to you and that you can move easily in. On dance days (we'll always let you know in  advance), you need to bring clothes that show the lines of your body as well as the appropriate shoes: jazz shoes, jazz sneakers, tap shoes, or sometimes, just sneakers are fine.
